Michael Nichols, CEO and owner of FIRST at Home, took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions about his company and share some advice about running a small business.

Why did you start your own business?

MIchael Nichols: FIRST at Home is a home health agency providing Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Medical and Social Services, Psychiatric Nursing and Private Duty Services throughout West Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. We make it possible for patients to leave the hospital so they can recover in the comfort of their own homes rather than spend their recovery in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

How did you find your niche?

Michael Nichols: FIRST at Home wanted to be a leader in the establishment of world class Home Health Care services to all. We wanted to provide all aspects of Home Health Care to our patients and make it an easy process for the patients, families and doctors. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality home-based patient care with compassion and respect for each person. We strive to extend the highest level of courtesy, safety and service to patients, family/caregivers, visitors and each other.

What is the most rewarding part of running your own company?

Michael Nichols: We love to hear that our patients our healthy and had a great experience while under the care of our FIRST at Home team.

Describe your best day as a business owner.

Michael Nichols: Our best day was receiving our ACHC accreditation which is the highest level of accreditation for a Home Health Care Agency .

Do you have any advice for people who are thinking about starting their own business?

Michael Nichols: Starting your own business involves a lot of time and careful planning. It can be rewarding but it takes organization, dedication and hard work to succeed.

How do you market your business?

Michael Nichols: We market our business by visiting doctors and updating them daily on new rehabilitative services that FIRST Rehab offers. We also market our business via the web and Google.
